Frequently asked questions
The questions this raises, answered before the call.
Everything here is somewhere else on this site as well, in the pricing, in the terms or on the homepage. It is in one place because a page that answers one question at a time reads better than three pages that answer all of them at once.
01 The ones that come up first
Is there really nothing to pay up front?
No setup fee and no invoice for the build. The first payment is the month the site goes live, not before.
What happens at month 24?
The site and the domain are ours until the twenty-fourth month and yours from it. The monthly is not repaying the build and is not a loan against it, which is why there is never a balance and never an exit fee. What the twenty-four months buy is the time that makes building it for nothing worth doing.
Can I cancel?
By email, any month. We stop the Direct Debit that day. No notice, no exit fee, nothing to settle. You take your own words and pictures with you.
I already own a domain.
We point it and never ask for it. Only a domain we register for you is one we hold, and that comes to you at month 24.
What do I need to give you?
What you do and who you want to reach. If you don't have copy or photographs, we write and source them. Whatever you do give us stays yours.
02 Paying for it
When does the first payment come out, and how?
The month the site goes live, by Direct Debit through GoCardless. Card or invoice if you prefer, say so on the call. Nothing is taken before the site is up.
Is there VAT to add?
No. We are not VAT-registered, so the prices on the pricing page are the prices.
See what each plan costsDoes the monthly go up?
Not in the second year, and not because you have been here a while. The price you start on is yours for as long as you stay, even when it goes up for people who arrive later.
Can I pay for the build outright instead?
You can, and then you own everything from the first day: the files, the domain, all of it. It is priced on the call rather than on the pricing page, because what it costs depends on the site. It is a different arrangement from the one the rest of this page describes.
03 What the monthly covers
How many changes do I get?
As many as you ask for, at no cost per change. What it does not cover is rebuilding the site to a new design, writing your copy from scratch, running your advertising, or repairing something that broke because somebody else was given access. Any of those is quoted and agreed before it starts.
What is covered and what is notWhat happens if the site goes down?
We keep it up and patched, and if it goes down we fix it. What nobody can promise is that a host, a registrar or a payment provider will never fail. Where a failure is our fault, what we owe is bounded by what you have paid us in the twelve months before it.
Will I rank on Google?
Anybody who promises you a position cannot keep it. What we do is build the site so it can be found, keep it fast, and redirect your old addresses when we move you, so you keep the position you already have.
Can I edit the site myself?
You ask and we do it, and there is no charge per change.
04 If you already have a website
Can you move my existing site across?
Yes, and there is nothing extra to pay for it on any plan. We keep what works, move it onto our hosting and make it faster, and redirect the old addresses so you keep your position on Google.
What if I only want it looked after, not rebuilt?
We take on hosting, updates, backups and changes to a site somebody else built. It is priced on the call rather than on the pricing page, because what it costs depends on what we are taking on.
05 Owning it, and leaving
What do I actually receive at month 24?
The site as a static export, which is a set of files any other host can serve, and the transfer of any domain we registered for you, at no charge. From that payment both are yours outright, whether you carry on with us afterwards or not.
What you leave withWhat happens if Teialoom stops trading before then?
The site and any domain we hold for you become yours at that point: the export, the files and the domain transfer, at no charge and with nothing further owed. We hold your address for two years, so this is your question rather than a hypothetical one, and the answer is written into the terms rather than promised on a call.
Read the clauseDo you own my text and photographs?
No. They were yours before we started, they stay yours throughout, and you take them with you whenever you go. The one thing we cannot hand over is somebody else's work: a stock photograph licensed for your site is licensed for your site.
06 Working with us
How long does it take?
Seven days for Essential, or the first month is on us. Complete and Portal get a launch date of their own, because bookings and payments have more in them to go wrong. A build stalls on content more often than on anything technical, and that is the one thing that makes a seven-day promise untrue.
Do I see anything before I pay?
Thirty minutes on the call, and we design your homepage afterwards, with your words and your business in it. If you do not like it, we leave it there and you owe nothing.
Where are you?
Teialoom is Daniel Leite, a sole trader working from Liverpool. Of the three live client sites, two are in northern Portugal and the third is in Cheshire, a few miles from this desk. The agreement is under the law of England and Wales, and a Portuguese client keeps every right Portuguese consumer and business law gives them.
Who you are dealing withIs there work you turn down?
Large shops with hundreds of products. We say so on the call rather than half an hour into it, and point you somewhere better.
The work that is not for usIf yours is not on this page, ask it on the call.
Thirty minutes, and we design your homepage afterwards whether you go ahead or not.
