Drivetrain Detail

A well-made steel frame lasts forty years. Our oldest is twelve and still goes out every Sunday. If one ever breaks, we braze it again.

How it is made

Four stages, nine weeks .

None of it is fast and none of it is meant to be. You see all of it, because every stage is photographed and sent: there are no surprises at the end.

01

Measuring

Two hours with you and the bike you ride now. We measure, we film you pedalling, and we draw the geometry in front of you.

Week 1

02

Cut and mitre

Columbus tubing cut by hand and mitred until the gap disappears. It is the longest stage and it decides everything after it.

Weeks 2–4

03

Brazing

Brass at six hundred and twenty degrees, joint by joint, with the frame back on the alignment table between each one. Then days of filing.

Weeks 5–7

04

Paint

Stripped, primed, two coats and a lacquer. You choose the colour in week six, standing over the finished frame.

Weeks 8–9

In numbers

Small on purpose .

There are two of us. We are not going to grow, because the only way to make more frames is to make them worse.
