About us
One photographer, two languages , and the same obsession.
Inês Cardoso founded Obscura in Marvila eleven years ago. Photography came first; film followed, because the same light rarely tells the whole story standing still.

She trained in documentary photography and spent her first years shooting product to pay the bills: that is where she learned the difference between a correct image and the right one. Film arrived later, when a client asked for thirty seconds to follow a stills campaign and nobody in the studio knew how to say no.
She still shoots stills and directs film with the same camera most of the time, and does not treat them as separate disciplines: a still is a frame that decided to hold; a moving shot is a sequence that decided not to.
The team
Still three of us.
Inês is behind the camera; a camera operator and a producer complete the team. They do not subcontract the part that matters and do not take on more than the three of them can do properly at once: the same rule described in the rest of the site.
