Our story
A winery, then a house again
My grandfather built this house in 1904 to press the grapes from the hill behind it, and he went on making wine here until 1998. When the winery closed I could not bring myself to sell a house that had been in the family that long, even though I had no idea, then, what to do with it.
It took fourteen empty years and then six of proper work before Casa da Serra opened as a guesthouse, in 2018. We kept what the winery gave us rather than covering it up: the schist stayed exposed, the press stayed where it stood, and the room we call Adega still has its original entrance from the courtyard.
Manuela and I run the house ourselves: six rooms, one table on Thursdays, and a booking book that is genuinely ours. If you write to us, one of us answers. If something needs fixing at eleven at night, one of us fixes it.

Philosophy
What six rooms are not.
Not a hotel
No reception desk, no shift changes, no uniform. Whoever answers the phone is the same person who greets you at the door.
Not a chain
Casa da Serra is not part of any group, and never will be. There is one house, and it is this one.
No middleman
Booking happens on this page, directly with us, at the rate we set. No platform takes a cut of a room we clean ourselves.
Not finished, on purpose
The house still shows its age where it should: the schist, the press, the uneven floor in the old cellar. None of that was sanded away.
