The houses we work in
No wall in West Kirby is square. We plan for that.
West Kirby and Hoylake were built in three goes, and each left a different kitchen behind. We have fitted kitchens in all three for twenty-two years, which is why every one of ours starts with a tape measure, not a catalogue.
-
Victorian terraces and villas
Around Grange Road, Banks Road and the streets off Hoylake’s Market Street
A narrow back kitchen, a chimney breast, a floor that falls towards the garden, and walls that are a centimetre out over a metre. We scribe everything and trust nothing to be square.
-
Edwardian houses
Along Meols Drive, Caldy Road and Westbourne Road
Bigger rooms and higher ceilings, which suits floor-to-ceiling larders and tall in-frame units. Many sit in a conservation area, so we tell you what that means before you pay for a drawing.
-
1930s semis
Greasby, Upton, Meols and the roads behind the promenade
A small kitchen at the back and a dining room beside it. Most of the kitchen-diners we build start here, with a steel beam and a notice to Wirral Council.

The workshop, Carr Lane, Hoylake
In-frame kitchens, made two miles from your house.
An in-frame kitchen has a solid face frame around every cabinet, and the doors sit inside it, flush, with a gap the thickness of a coin. It is how kitchens were made before flat-pack, and it is the only kind that ages like the house around it.
- Tulipwood frames, birch-ply carcasses, nothing in chipboard
- Solid oak drawer boxes, dovetailed by hand at the front
- Hand-painted in the workshop, in any colour you bring us
- Built to your measurements, scribed on site to your walls
Visits to the workshop by appointment, Monday to Friday. Ring the showroom and Kath will book you in.
Draw your kitchen
What would yours cost? Draw it, and see.
Choose a size, a door and a worktop and we will draw the run and price it from our 2026 prices. It is a range, not a quote: the survey is free and the quote is fixed.

Week 0
A back kitchen and a dining room, with a wall between them
Most 1930s semis in Hoylake, Greasby and Upton were built with a small kitchen at the back and the dining room beside it. The wall between them almost always carries the floor above, so it comes out on steel, not with a hammer.
-
Weeks 1 and 2
Steel in, wall out, one room
Our structural engineer sizes the beam and the padstones, we give Wirral Council Building Control notice, the wall is propped and taken out, the steel goes in and is boxed and plastered. The inspector signs it off before a cabinet arrives.
-
Weeks 6 to 8
A kitchen you can eat in
Then the kitchen goes in like any other, except that it has a table at the end of it now. You get the completion certificate from the council, which a buyer’s solicitor will ask for when you sell.
-
Typically
From £4,200 for the knock-through, on top of the kitchen, and about one week added to the job.

They handled the engineer and the council, and the inspector had signed off the steel before the cabinets turned up. The kitchen-diner is the room we live in now.

Our Victorian kitchen has no straight walls. Rob scribed every end panel so you would never know. The hand-drawn plan is framed in the hall.

The quote was itemised to the plinth, and the final bill matched it. Swept up every night, which with two dogs in the house mattered.
Alan, Greasby · Supply and fit · September 2025

A larder built into the alcove by the chimney, oak drawers that close like a car door. People open it at every party.
Priya, Caldy · Larder and dresser · November 2025

They told us our cabinets were fine and only the doors and the worktop needed doing. Saved us about eight thousand pounds and it looks new.

A sink by the back door for the dog after the beach. Should have done it ten years ago.

Questions
What people ask us across the kitchen table.
Anything else, ring Kath at the showroom on 0151 496 0418.
Do I need permission to knock the kitchen through?
Not planning permission, usually, for an internal wall. But taking out a wall that carries the floor above is structural work under the Building Regulations, so Wirral Council Building Control has to be told before it starts and has to inspect it. We arrange the structural engineer, give the notice, and hand you the completion certificate at the end.
We are in a conservation area. Does that change anything?
Inside the house, rarely. Caldy, Kings Gap in Hoylake and Meols Drive are conservation areas, and they control what changes on the outside: new windows, a door to the garden, a flue through the wall. If the house is listed, even internal work needs listed building consent. We check which applies at the survey, before anyone draws anything.
How long will we be without a kitchen?
From the old kitchen coming out to the new one working, usually one to two weeks, longer with a knock-through. We leave you a working sink and a socket for a microwave wherever we can, and we tell you the dates before we start.
Can you fit a kitchen I have already bought?
Yes. We fit kitchens from the big retailers most weeks, from £2,400 for a typical ten-unit kitchen. We will check the order against the drawing before it arrives, because a missing filler panel costs a week.
Oak or quartz?
Oak is warmer, cheaper, can be sanded back after twenty years, and wants oiling twice a year. Quartz shrugs off a hot pan and a glass of red, needs nothing, and costs more. Plenty of our kitchens have both: oak on the island, quartz by the sink and hob.
How do the payments work?
25% to order, 50% when the cabinets are delivered, and 25% when we have walked round the finished kitchen with you and the snag list is done. Deposits are held under an insurance-backed scheme, so they are safe whatever happens to us.
Do you come to Heswall, or further?
Heswall, Irby, Thurstaston and Pensby every week. Further down the Wirral, Bebington or Neston, ask: for a made-to-measure kitchen we will travel.
Where we work
From the Marine Lake to Heswall, a quarter of an hour either way.
