07 Emergencies
Water where it shouldn't be?
Do these four things, then ring us. The emergency line is answered by an engineer, not a call centre, at any hour.
- Turn off the stopcock. Clockwise. Usually under the kitchen sink; in a terrace, often under the stairs or by the front door.
- Turn off the boiler and any water heater, at the switch.
- Open the cold taps to drain what is left in the pipes.
- Keep water away from electrics. If it is near lights or sockets, switch off at the fuse board, if you can reach it safely.
Smell gas? Leave the building, do not touch switches, and call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first. Then call us.

The things people ask on the phone.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
Not in office hours. You pay the visit price on our list, £85 for a breakdown visit including the first 45 minutes, and nothing for turning up. Evenings, weekends and bank holidays it is £145 for the first hour.
Are your engineers Gas Safe registered?
Every engineer who touches gas is, and carries a Gas Safe ID card. Ask to see it at the door: the front has their photo and licence number, the back lists the work they are qualified for. You can check the number on the Gas Safe Register website or on 0800 408 5500.
How quickly can you come out?
For emergencies, meaning a leak you cannot stop, no water, or no heating with someone vulnerable at home, usually within two hours, day or night. Our average this year is 52 minutes. Everything else within the week, and often the next day.
What size of boiler do I need?
For a combi it depends more on bathrooms than bedrooms. Roughly: 25 kW for one bathroom, 30 kW for two, 35 kW for a larger house with two. With three or more bathrooms a system boiler and a cylinder usually works better. We confirm it with a heat-loss check at the survey.
Do you fit heat pumps?
Yes. We are MCS certified, so we can claim the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant for you: £7,500 off an air source heat pump in England and Wales, more for some homes off the gas grid until March 2027.
What guarantee do I get?
Two years on our workmanship for everything we fit, in writing. New boilers also carry the manufacturer’s warranty of 7 to 12 years, which we register for you on the day.
How do I pay?
Card on the day, contactless on the doorstep, or bank transfer. We never ask for money before a job starts, apart from a 20 per cent deposit for parts on boilers and bathrooms.
Do you do landlord certificates?
Yes, £75 for a boiler and one appliance. We keep the dates, remind you a month before each is due, and email the certificate the same day.
