Four electricians, four vans

The person who quotes is the person who does the job.

Since 2011 Brightwell has worked across Nottingham from a small unit on Haydn Road. No call centre, no subcontractors, no surprises on the invoice. We answer the phone, turn up when we said, and leave the place cleaner than we found it.

The board

Eight circuits, one phone call.

Everything we do, laid out like the board under your stairs. Scroll to switch them on, or press any breaker.

01 / 08 REWIRE

Full and partial rewires

Old rubber or fabric cable, no earth to the lights, sockets that crackle. We rewire room by room so you can stay in, chase neatly, and leave the walls ready for the plasterer.

  • 3-bed semi: usually 5–7 working days
  • Power back on every evening
  • Floors covered, a tidy-up every day

From £4,800 3-bed semi

02 / 08 BOARD

Consumer unit upgrades

A fuse box with wire fuses, or one RCD for the whole house, is the thing we replace most. New all-RCBO boards with surge protection, so one fault trips one circuit and not everything.

  • Usually done in a day
  • Every circuit tested and labelled
  • Notified to building control for you

From £595 fitted

03 / 08 EICR

EICRs and safety checks

  • Report emailed the same day
  • Landlords: at least every five years
  • Remedial work inside 28 days

From £150 1–2 bed

  • Usually half a day
  • OZEV-approved installers
  • Tethered or socket, your choice

From £899 fitted

05 / 08 LIGHTS

Lighting design and fitting

Pendants over the island, strips under the cupboards, dimmable downlights that do not hum. We plan where the light should fall before we cut a single hole in a ceiling.

  • Free lighting plan on jobs over £600
  • Dimmers matched to the lamps
  • Inside and out

From £65 per fitting

06 / 08 SMART

Smart home, wired properly

Lighting scenes, heating controls, video doorbells and cameras, wired in rather than running on batteries. They work with the app you already use, and still work from an ordinary switch.

  • Smart switches for UK back boxes
  • Set up on your phone before we go
  • Hard-wired doorbells and cameras

From £180 doorbell, fitted

07 / 08 SOLAR

Solar panels and batteries

Panels on the roof and a battery in the garage or loft, sized from your real bills, not a brochure. Zero VAT until 31 March 2027, and your export tariff set up before we go.

  • MCS certificate included
  • Battery-only installs too
  • Generation app and monitoring

From £9,400 4 kWp + 5 kWh

08 / 08 FAULTS

Fault finding and repairs

A breaker that will not stay up, a dead socket, lights that flicker when the kettle goes on. We trace it, explain it and fix it, usually on the first visit.

  • Same or next working day
  • A fixed price for the first hour
  • No power at all? Mobile until 10pm

After: a modern consumer unit with a neat row of white breakers Before: an old fuse board with ceramic fuse carriers on a scorched back board

Carlton · Consumer unit

A 1960s fuse board out. Ten RCBOs in. One day.

Wire fuses on a scorched wooden back board, and no RCD on anything. We fitted an all-RCBO board with surge protection, tested and labelled every circuit, and had the power back by four. Hannah got the certificate by email that evening.

Questions

What people ask us first.

Anything else, ring the office. If we are up a ladder we ring you back within the hour.

0115 496 0391
Do I need a registered electrician? What is Part P?

In England some electrical work has to be notified to building control: a new circuit, a consumer unit replacement, and most work in a bathroom. As NICEIC-registered electricians we self-certify it and notify the council for you, so you get an Electrical Installation Certificate and a building regulations compliance certificate. Keep both: a buyer’s solicitor will ask for them.

How long does a rewire take, and can we stay in the house?

A 3-bed semi usually takes five to seven working days, plus a return visit for the second fix once the plastering is done. Most families stay in. We work room by room and put the power back on to the whole house every evening.

How do I know if I need a new consumer unit?

Fuses with wire in them, a wooden back board, no RCD protection, or a board that trips often are the usual signs. An EICR tells you for certain, and we will not sell you a board you do not need.

How often should I have an EICR?

Landlords in England need one at least every five years, with any urgent remedial work done within 28 days. Homeowners: every ten years, or when you buy a house. We email the report the same day and keep the date on file.

Can I have an EV charger without a driveway?

A home charger needs off-street parking, because a cable across the pavement is not allowed. If you rent, or own a flat with a private space, the OZEV grant can take up to £500 off until 31 March 2027. You apply to OZEV yourself once the charger is ordered, and we send you everything the form asks for.

Do you charge for quotes?

No. Small jobs are priced from photos. Larger jobs get a free visit and a written quote within 24 hours, and the price does not change unless the job does.

How do I pay?

Card, bank transfer or Apple Pay, when the job is done. For jobs over £2,000 we take a 20 per cent deposit for materials. You never pay for work we have not done.

Are you insured, and is the work guaranteed?

We carry £5 million of public liability insurance and guarantee our workmanship for six years. If something we fitted fails, we come back and put it right at no charge.
